Random Word Generator
Generate random English words with dictionary definitions and random numbers. Filter by length, part of speech, and number type. Favorites and history are saved locally in your browser.
Random Word Generator
Live definitions are requested from the Free Dictionary API from your browser. If the live lookup fails, the tool uses a built-in local definition. Favorites and recent generations are stored in localStorage on this device only. Text-to-speech uses your browser's native speech synthesis.

- Sync favorites across devices (data is stored per browser).
- Handle Unicode, emoji, or non-English word generation.
Troubleshooting
Quick fixes for common Random Word Generator issues.
Definition shows fallback
The Free Dictionary API may be slow or unreachable. If the live lookup fails, the tool uses its built-in local definition and provides a "Fetch live definition" option when available.
"No words match your filters"
Widen your min/max length range or reduce the exclusion list. Very narrow filters may leave zero candidates.
"Could not generate a number"
Prime numbers in small ranges are rare. Increase the range when using the prime filter.
Favorites disappeared
Favorites live in localStorage on the current browser. Clearing browser data or switching devices resets them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the Random Word Generator.
How does the Random Word Generator work?
The generator picks a word at random from a curated word list, then fetches its definition from the Free Dictionary API. At the same time, it generates a random number based on your chosen range and type.
How accurate are the word definitions?
Definitions are retrieved in real time from the Free Dictionary API when available. If a word has multiple meanings, the first matching definition returned by the API is used. If the live lookup fails, the tool uses its built-in local definition.
Can I use this tool for educational purposes?
Yes, it is well suited for vocabulary building, creative writing prompts, language learning exercises, and math activities using the random number feature.
Is there a limit to how many words I can generate?
There is no hard limit, though very frequent requests in a short time could occasionally hit dictionary API rate limits.
Can I save my generated results?
Yes, you can download results as a text file, copy them to your clipboard, or share them directly via WhatsApp. Your recent generations and favorites are also saved locally in your browser using localStorage.
