Understanding Page Ranges
Each file card has a page range field so you can merge only the pages you actually need — here's exactly how the syntax works.
Continuous Range
Type 1-3 to include pages 1, 2, and 3 from that file — everything from the start number to the end number, inclusive.
Mixed Ranges & Single Pages
Type 5, 8-10 to include page 5 by itself, plus pages 8 through 10 — combine as many comma-separated ranges and single pages as needed.
Leave It Empty
By default, each file's range is pre-filled with all its pages. Leave it as-is if you want the entire document included in the merge, no editing needed.
Invalid Ranges Are Ignored
If you type a reversed range like 10-5 or a page number beyond the document's length, that part is silently skipped rather than causing an error.
Common Merge Problems
Most of these are expected behavior, not bugs — here's what's actually happening and how to fix it.
🔘 Merge button doesn't respond
Merging happens entirely in your browser, not on a server. Very large PDFs (50MB+) or many files at once can use a lot of memory — try merging fewer or smaller files at a time, or close other browser tabs first.
🔢 Page count mismatch after merge
If a file's page range field is empty or contains only invalid entries, that file contributes zero pages to the merge. Check each card's range field before merging — it should list the pages you actually want.
🔀 Reordering not saving
Choosing a Sort option (Name/Size) re-sorts all cards automatically, overriding any manual drag-and-drop order you set. Do manual reordering after picking a sort option, not before.
🗑️ Delete Page removes wrong page
"Delete Page" removes whichever page is currently shown in that file's preview — not a page number you might have in mind. Navigate to the exact page using the arrows first, then delete.
📦 Why is my merged PDF too large?
Merging combines files as-is without compressing them — the output size is roughly the sum of your inputs. If the result is too large to share, run it through our Compress PDF tool afterward.
📑 Why is page order wrong?
The merge follows the exact left-to-right card order shown on screen at the moment you click "Merge PDFs" — always double-check card order (and each file's internal page range) right before merging.
🔒 Why can't I merge a password-protected PDF?
This tool reads files directly in your browser without a password prompt, so encrypted PDFs can't be opened or previewed. Remove the password using a PDF unlock tool first, then upload the unlocked file here.
🔄 Why are pages upside down?
If a source PDF has page rotation set at the file level (common with scanned documents), that rotation carries over into the merged file as-is, since merging preserves each page exactly as it appears in the original.

A few habits that make merging faster and more predictable.
Edit pages before merging, not after
Once files are merged, you can't remove or reorder individual source pages inside the output. Set page ranges and delete unwanted pages on each file card first.
Sort first, then fine-tune manually
Use Name or Size sorting to get close to your desired order first, then drag individual cards for any final adjustments — doing it the other way around undoes your manual work.
Preview every card before merging
Use the page navigation and zoom on each file to confirm you're merging the right pages — a quick check here avoids re-doing the whole merge later.
Unlock protected PDFs first
If any source file is password-protected, remove the password before uploading — encrypted files can't be read or previewed by this tool.
Compress large merges afterward
Merging doesn't shrink file size — if you're combining several large scanned PDFs, run the result through Compress PDF before sharing or emailing it.
Rename before you download
The output filename field appears right after merging — rename it there instead of renaming the downloaded file afterward on your device.
