Sample Rate (kHz)
The number of audio "snapshots" taken per second. Most browsers default to 48 kHz (48,000 samples/sec), which exceeds the 44.1 kHz CD standard — though this isn't a setting controlled by this tool's code, so it can vary by device.
The Opus Codec
The encoder inside WEBM files. Opus is designed to sound clear at bitrates well below what older codecs like MP3 need for similar quality. This tool doesn't set an explicit bitrate in code — your browser chooses one automatically, so the exact number varies by device.
Mono vs. Stereo
The actual channel configuration depends on the microphone, browser, and recording environment. Mono audio can reduce file size and is often suitable for speech, while stereo may be used when the input device provides separate channels.

How to Record Your Voice

Stop & Playback
Hit Stop when finished. Your take appears below with an audio player and its exact duration and file size. Listen to verify quality.
Download
Click Download to save the .webm file to your device. Record as many additional takes as you need — they're all listed for easy access.
Mistakes People Make With This Tool
Three things that trip people up specifically because of how this recorder is built.
Blocking Mic Permission
If you block microphone access, the recorder cannot receive audio and will show a microphone error.
Fix: Click the lock/camera icon in your address bar, set Microphone to "Allow", and reload the page before recording.
Closing the Tab Too Soon
Assuming recordings are saved somewhere. Because this tool doesn't upload anything, closing the tab permanently erases un-downloaded takes.
Fix: Download every take you want to keep before leaving the page. Make downloading the final step of every session.
Using .webm in Legacy Software
Importing the download into very old editors or hardware players that predate WEBM/Opus support, then blaming the recording.
Fix: Some modern editors support .webm directly, while others may require conversion. If your editor cannot open the file, convert the downloaded .webm to a format it supports.

Why does this recorder download as .webm instead of .mp3?
This recorder uses the browser's MediaRecorder API, which supports WebM recording in modern browsers without requiring a server-side conversion step. MP3 is not generated by this tool. If you need MP3, you can convert the downloaded .webm file with a separate audio converter.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes. It works in modern mobile browsers that support microphone access and the MediaRecorder API, including Chrome, Safari, and Firefox on supported devices.
Is there a recording time limit?
There is no fixed recording timer. Practical recording length depends on your browser and available device memory, since takes live in browser RAM until downloaded. For very long sessions, record in separate takes.
The microphone isn't detected. What do I do?
Check three things: (1) the mic is plugged in / selected in your OS sound settings, (2) browser permission is set to "Allow" (click the lock icon in the address bar), and (3) no other app (Zoom, Teams) is exclusively holding the device. Then reload and retry.
Can I edit or trim my recordings here?
No. This tool focuses on fast, private capture and playback. For trimming, noise removal, or effects, import the downloaded .webm into a free editor like Audacity or an online audio trimmer.
