How the image is built
The post is laid out at 550 pixels wide, close to how a single post appears on X on a computer, then drawn at 2x for an 1100-pixel PNG. Long words wrap, line breaks are kept, and hashtags, @mentions and links are coloured.
The character counter follows X's own weighting: most letters, including Hindi and Gujarati, count as 1; emojis and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters count as 2; and links count as 23. Photos are cropped from the centre between wide and slightly tall, with rounded corners like on X.
Mistakes to avoid
Things that make mockups look wrong or cause real trouble.
Fake quotes from real people can be defamation. Use invented names.
Download the PNG instead; it's drawn at 2x and stays sharp.
Unrealistic numbers make a mockup look fake to clients.
Only paid accounts can post over 280. Keep within the counter.
Tips for better mockups
Making it look right
- Use a square profile picture so the circle crop looks clean.
- Use a photo at least 1100 pixels wide for a sharp result.
- Write numbers the way X does: 1.9K, 212, 48.2K.
- Use the dark theme for dark slides or videos.

Does this post anything to X (Twitter)?
No. It doesn't connect to X or any account. It draws a picture of a post in your browser, and you download that picture.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your profile picture and post image are read and drawn by your browser only; nothing is sent to our server. Your text settings are remembered in this browser, but images are not saved.
Why does the counter say my post is over 280?
X counts most letters as 1, but emojis and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters as 2, and every link as 23. The counter here follows the same rules. Longer posts are only possible for paid accounts, so a mockup over 280 may not look realistic for a regular account.
Is it legal to make a fake tweet?
Making a mockup for design, teaching, a pitch or clearly labelled satire is generally fine. Using one to pretend a real person or brand posted something, to mislead people, or to harass someone can break the law and X's rules. Use your own name or an invented one, and keep the Mockup label on when sharing.
Why is there a "Mockup" label on the image?
So nobody mistakes the picture for a real post when it's shared. You can turn it off for private work, such as a client preview or a slide, but we recommend leaving it on for anything posted publicly.
What size is the downloaded image?
1100 pixels wide (twice the on-screen size) as a PNG, so text stays sharp. The height depends on your text and photo.
Does it look exactly like X?
It follows X's post layout in its three themes, light, dim and dark, but it isn't made by or connected to X Corp, and it uses no X logos. Fonts and icons can look slightly different on each device.
Can I copy the image instead of downloading it?
Yes. Press Copy image to put it on your clipboard, then paste it into a document, chat or design app. If your browser doesn't allow that, use Download instead.
