How this Instagram post generator works
Drawn, not screenshotted
The post is drawn directly onto an image canvas at 1080 pixels wide, Instagram's own photo width, so the preview you see is exactly the PNG you download, with sharp text and no blurry screenshot.
Private by design
Photos are read by your browser and never uploaded. There are no outside libraries or image services, so nothing about your post leaves this page.
Made for honest use
A small "Mockup" label is on by default so the image can't be mistaken for a real post. Turn it off for private design work like slides or client previews.
Check it yourself. Open your browser's developer tools (F12) and choose the Network tab, then upload a photo and download the image. No requests are made.
What do you need the post for?
Pick your use. Each button sets up a good starting point.
| Use | Set-up | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Showing a client an ad before it runs | Use the brand's username, add the ad photo in 4:5, keep the Mockup label off for the private preview. | |
| A quote or tips post | No photo, a colour background and large text on the image, as a carousel. | |
| A slide for a class or talk | Use an invented username, dark mode for dark slides, and keep the Mockup label on. | |
| I need real post text written | Write the caption with AI first, then paste it here. | Post generator |
How the image is built
The post is laid out at 470 pixels wide, the width of a post in Instagram's feed on a computer, then drawn at 1080 pixels wide. Long words wrap, line breaks are kept, and hashtags and @mentions are coloured.
Photos are cropped from the centre to the shape you pick: square (1:1), portrait (4:5) or landscape (1.91:1), the three shapes Instagram's feed shows. Without a photo, a colour background with your text on top makes a quote or tips post.
Mistakes to avoid
Things that make mockups look wrong or cause real trouble.
Fake quotes from real people can be defamation. Use invented names.
Download the PNG instead; it's drawn at 2x and stays sharp.
Unrealistic numbers make a mockup look fake to clients.
Important parts get cropped. Pick the shape that fits your photo.
Tips for better mockups
Making it look right
- Use a square profile picture so the circle crop looks clean.
- Use a photo at least 1080 pixels wide for a sharp result.
- Write likes the way Instagram does: 1,248 likes.
- Match dark mode to dark slides or videos.
Using it well
- Show clients two versions of an ad side by side.
- Teach students how to spot fake posts with labelled examples.
- Keep the Mockup label on anything shared publicly.
- Save the text you used; images aren't stored.
Frequently asked questions
Short answers about privacy, image size and responsible use.
Does this post anything to Instagram?
No. It doesn't connect to Instagram or any account. It draws a picture of a post in your browser, and you download that picture.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your profile picture and post photo are read and drawn by your browser only; nothing is sent to our server. Your text settings are remembered in this browser, but images are not saved.
What size is the downloaded image?
1080 pixels wide, the width Instagram uses for feed photos, as a PNG. The height depends on the photo shape you pick (square, portrait 4:5 or landscape) and the length of your caption.
Is it legal to make a fake Instagram post?
Making a mockup for design, teaching, a pitch or clearly labelled satire is generally fine. Using one to pretend a real person or brand posted something, to mislead people, or to harass someone can break the law and Instagram's rules. Use your own username or an invented one, and keep the Mockup label on when sharing.
Why is there a "Mockup" label on the image?
So nobody mistakes the picture for a real post when it's shared. You can turn it off for private work, such as a client preview or a slide, but we recommend leaving it on for anything posted publicly.
Can I show a carousel or a quote post?
Yes. Set the number of slides to show the dots and the 1/5 counter, and add Text on image to place large text over your photo, or over a colour background if you have no photo.
Does it look exactly like Instagram?
It follows Instagram's familiar feed layout in light or dark mode, but it isn't made by or connected to Meta, and it uses no Instagram logos. Fonts and icons can look slightly different on each device.
Can I copy the image instead of downloading it?
Yes. Press Copy image to put it on your clipboard, then paste it into a document, chat or design app. If your browser doesn't allow that, use Download instead.
