How to choose an AI tool

Four things that matter more than which tool is trending this week.

Start with one assistant

A general assistant handles most writing, questions and summaries. Add a specialised tool only for jobs it does poorly, such as video, voice or slides.

Free plans have limits

Free plans cap messages, credits, quality or features, and may add watermarks. Compare what the paid plan adds before you pay.

Know where your data goes

What you type and upload is sent to the company. Check whether it is used for training, turn that off if you can, and keep personal and client data out.

Check what it tells you

AI can state wrong facts with confidence. Check numbers, names, quotes and legal or medical information against reliable sources.

How tools get listed

The same four checks for every card.

  1. Find the official site

Every card links to the tool's own website, never to a reseller, a look-alike domain or an affiliate link.

  2. Write what it really does

One line on what the tool does and one on who it suits, in plain words instead of marketing claims.

  3. Label the price honestly

Free plan, free trial, paid, open source, or See pricing when plans vary by country or use.

  4. Review and remove

Tools that shut down, change hands or change direction are corrected or removed at each review.

What this directory does, and what it doesn't

A plain list, so you know exactly what to expect.

This directory does

  • List active AI tools with official links
  • Say what each tool does and who it suits
  • Show whether a free plan exists
  • Mark open models and Indian-language tools
  • Remove tools that shut down or change
  • Let you filter, search and share a link

This directory does not

  • Sell placements or use affiliate links
  • Rate or rank tools with stars
  • Guarantee current prices or limits
  • Run or host any of these tools
  • Vouch for how tools handle your data
  • List every AI tool that exists

Where your data goes

Searching and filtering happen in your browser; what you type here is not sent to us. When you open a tool, you leave this site and that company's own privacy policy applies. Links carry no tracking or affiliate codes. See our privacy policy.

When an AI tool does not work as expected

The six surprises people run into most, and what they mean.

The link opens a different brand

AI companies rename and get bought often. The card is updated at the next review; tell us if you spot one.

The free plan is very limited

Free plans usually cap messages, credits or quality. Try the free plan first, then compare paid plans.

Not available in your country

Some tools launch in a few countries first or block some regions. Check the tool's help pages.

It asks for a card to start a trial

Set a reminder before the trial ends, or look for a tool on the list with a free plan.

The answer sounds right but is wrong

AI can make up facts, quotes and links. Check important answers against a reliable source.

It asks for your age or ID

Some tools are for adults only or need age checks. Follow their rules, especially for children.

Questions about AI tools

Which AI tool should I start with?

Start with one general assistant, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Microsoft Copilot, for everyday questions and writing. Add a specialised tool only when you have a job the assistant does poorly, such as video, voice or presentations. The table on this page suggests a first tool for common jobs.

Are these AI tools free?

Many have a free plan, but free plans usually limit how much you can use them, the quality, or the features. Each card shows a pricing label: Free plan, Free trial, Paid, Free and open source, or See pricing when plans vary. Prices and limits change often, so check the tool's own pricing page before you pay.

Does a listing mean you recommend or endorse the tool?

No. A listing means the tool is real, active and does what the card says. It is not a review or a guarantee. No company pays to be listed or to appear higher, and links go straight to each tool's official website.

Is it safe to put my documents or personal data into AI tools?

Only share what you would be comfortable sending to that company. Many tools may store what you type and, on free plans, may use it to improve their models unless you opt out. Read the privacy settings, avoid uploading ID numbers, passwords or client data, and use a business plan when work rules require it.

Which AI tools work well in Indian languages?

ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude understand Hindi, Gujarati and other Indian languages for everyday use. For voice, ElevenLabs supports Hindi. Sarvam AI builds models and speech tools specifically for Indian languages. Quality still varies by language, so check important text with a native speaker.

How often is this directory updated?

The list is reviewed regularly: tools that shut down, change hands or change their product are corrected or removed, and new tools are added. The date at the top shows the last review. It currently lists 161 tools.

Can I suggest a tool or report a mistake?

Yes. Use the contact page to send the tool's name and official website, or what is wrong on a card. Suggestions are checked against the official site before anything is added or changed.
