Reads the sitemap of the website address above and lists its pages, so you can tick the important ones. Titles and descriptions are read from each page you add.

AI is optional. It fills only empty notes and an empty summary, using the page titles and descriptions; check what it writes. Privacy: those titles, descriptions and links go to our server and then to Google Gemini or OpenRouter.

What llms.txt is, and what it isn't

llms.txt is a proposal from 2024 for a short Markdown file that points AI tools to a website's most useful pages. It is cheap to add, but it is not a ranking trick.

    What this tool does

    • Writes a correct llms.txt in the proposed format: a title, a one-line summary, optional details and sections of links with short notes.
    • Finds your pages from your sitemap and reads their titles and descriptions.
    • Optionally drafts notes with AI, using only your own titles and descriptions, so nothing is made up about your business.
    • Checks the file for missing parts, broken or duplicate links and a size that is too big.

    What it doesn't do

    • Improve Google rankings. Google has said it doesn't use llms.txt, and no AI company has promised to read it.
    • Make AI tools cite you. At best it helps an AI tool that does read it find the right pages.
    • Replace robots.txt or your sitemap. robots.txt controls access; your sitemap lists every page for search engines.
    • Upload the file for you. You add it to your website yourself, in a minute.

How to add llms.txt to your website

    1. Fill in your website

Name, address and a one-line summary. Use "Read my sitemap" to pick your key pages.

    2. Group your pages

Make a few sections, such as Tools, Guides and Company. Move less important pages to Optional.

    3. Write short notes

One short line per link saying what the page helps with. Use AI for a first draft if you like.

    4. Upload the file

Download llms.txt and upload it to the top folder of your site with your host's File Manager or FTP, next to robots.txt.

    5. Using an SEO plugin?

Some SEO plugins, such as Yoast SEO, can create llms.txt for you. Use either the plugin's file or this one, not both.

    6. Check it

Open yoursite.com/llms.txt in your browser. If a caching or security plugin blocks .txt files, allow it.

    Questions

    Frequently asked questions

    What is an llms.txt file?

A plain text file in Markdown, placed at yoursite.com/llms.txt, that gives AI tools a short summary of your website and links to its most useful pages. It was proposed in 2024 as a guide for large language models, a little like a sitemap written for AI.

Does llms.txt help SEO or AI rankings?

There is no evidence that it does. Google has said it doesn't use llms.txt, and no major AI company has promised to read it. It is quick to add and harmless, so some sites add it in case AI tools start using it, but don't expect more traffic from it alone.

What is the difference between llms.txt and robots.txt?

robots.txt tells bots which pages they may visit. llms.txt doesn't allow or block anything; it only points to helpful pages and explains your site. Use our AI Robots.txt Generator to control AI bots.

    Which pages should I include?

The pages that best explain your site: your main products or tools, key guides, pricing, documentation, about and contact pages. Leave out tag pages, search pages and thin content. Put less important pages in the Optional section.

    Where do I upload llms.txt?

To the top folder of your website, the same place as robots.txt, so it opens at yoursite.com/llms.txt. Use your host's File Manager or FTP. Some SEO plugins, such as Yoast SEO, can create it for you instead.

How does "Read my sitemap" work?

It reads your public robots.txt and XML sitemap to list your pages, then reads the title and meta description of the pages you add. It only reads public pages, and nothing is stored.

Does the AI make things up?

It is told to use only your page titles and descriptions and never to invent numbers, prices, awards or claims. It only fills notes that are empty and the summary if it is empty. Always read and edit what it writes.

    What is llms-full.txt?

A related idea: one large file with the full text of your important pages. This tool makes the short llms.txt, which is what the proposal describes as the main file.
