How this social media saver works

Reads the link

It recognises the platform and what the link points to, like a Reel, a Short, a photo or a profile, even from short app links like youtu.be, fb.watch or vm.tiktok.com.

Shows the official way

You get the exact taps to save that kind of post inside the app, download it when the creator allows, or get your own uploads back as files.

Gives what it safely can

For YouTube it shows the video preview and downloads the thumbnail in every size. For every platform it makes a clean, tracking-free link to copy.

Why not a direct video downloader? YouTube, Instagram and the others forbid downloading other people's videos with outside tools, and those sites often break or carry malware. Official methods are safer and respect creators.

Saving vs downloading: what each app allows

Most apps offer a Save button that keeps a post in your account to watch later, and some offer a real Download when the creator allows it: Instagram for public Reels, TikTok for many videos, Pinterest for images, and YouTube for offline viewing inside the app.

Every platform also lets you download everything you posted yourself through its data export, at full quality. These menus move around between app updates, so if a step looks different, search the app's settings for "Download your information" or "Download your data".

Mistakes to avoid when saving videos

The risky shortcuts people take.

"Free Reel downloader" sites

Pop-ups, fake buttons and malware are common. Many break weekly.

Logging in to a downloader

Never give your Instagram password to a third-party site.

Reposting a downloaded Reel

Copyright strikes and blocked accounts follow. Ask first.

Sharing links with ?igsh= or ?si=

Tracking codes tie the link to you. Share the clean link.

Good habits for saving posts

For things you love

  • Use Save and collections to organise favourites.
  • Ask the creator; most say yes when you credit them.
  • Keep the clean link in your notes as a bookmark.
  • Follow the creator so you don't lose their work.

For your own content

  • Download your data every few months as a backup.
  • Keep original files from your camera or editor.
  • Use YouTube Studio for full-quality copies.
  • Save your thumbnails before changing them.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about saving, downloading and privacy.

Why doesn't this tool download Instagram or YouTube videos directly?

Because those platforms don't allow it. YouTube's and Instagram's terms forbid downloading other people's videos with outside tools, and most videos belong to their creators. Sites that do it break often, show heavy ads and sometimes carry malware. This tool shows you the safe, official ways to save each post instead, and the images we can legitimately give you, like YouTube thumbnails.

How can I download my own Instagram Reels or YouTube videos?

For your own content it's easy and official. On YouTube, open YouTube Studio, go to Content, open the three-dot menu on a video and choose Download. On Instagram, use Accounts Center, then Your information and permissions, then Download your information, to get your posts, Reels and stories as files.

Can I save someone else's Reel to my phone?

Sometimes. If the creator has allowed it, Instagram shows a Download option in the share menu of public Reels. If you don't see it, the creator has turned it off; you can still save the Reel inside Instagram or ask the creator for the file.

What does "Clean link" do?

It removes tracking bits that apps add when you share, like ?igsh=, ?si= or utm_ codes, and gives you a short, tidy link to the same post. It's nicer to share and doesn't tell the platform who shared it with whom.

Which platforms does it recognise?

YouTube (videos, Shorts and live), Instagram (posts, Reels, stories and profiles), Facebook (videos, Reels, photos and posts), X (Twitter), TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Threads, including the short links their apps create.

Is the link I paste sent to your server?

No. The link is read in your browser. For YouTube links, your browser loads the thumbnail images and the video preview straight from YouTube.
