Screenshots are kept in this page's memory on your computer and are lost when the page closes, so download the ones you want. Taking screenshots needs a desktop browser; on a phone, open a screenshot you took with the phone to edit it here. Shortcuts: Ctrl+V paste, Ctrl+Z undo, Ctrl+Y redo, Enter applies a crop, Esc cancels.
How browser screenshots work
Your browser shares what you pick, and this page turns one frame of it into an image.
You choose what is shared
The browser's own picker offers the entire screen, a window or a tab. The page sees nothing you do not pick, and your browser shows when sharing is on.
One share, many screenshots
Sharing stays on after the first screenshot, so the next one is a single click. Stop sharing here or in the browser bar when you are done.
Real pixels, not display size
A screenshot keeps every pixel of the screen. On a Retina or 150% scaled display that is more than the resolution in your display settings.
Size presets and custom size
Small (640 pixels wide) suits chats and email, Medium (1280) documents and blogs, Large (1920) slides. Custom sets any width and height.
Which capture mode to use
Pick the mode that matches what you want in the picture.
| You want | Choose | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| The whole desktop, with the taskbar or Dock | Entire screen | With several monitors, the picker lets you choose one. |
| One app or document | Window | Other windows stay out, even if they are on top. |
| A web page as you see it | Browser tab | Captures the visible part only, without the address bar. |
| Part of the screen | Any mode, with Select an area | Drag over the part you want after the capture. |
| A menu or hover effect | Window or Entire screen, with a delay | Open the menu during the countdown. |
| A long, scrolling page | Not possible by screen sharing | Use the website screenshot generator for public pages. |

Where your data goes
Nowhere. Your browser captures the screen and this page edits and saves the image on your computer. We never receive your screen or your images. Only your settings, such as mode, delay, size and format, are remembered in this browser. See our privacy policy.
When a screenshot does not come out right
The six problems people run into most, and what to change.
The screenshot is black
Streaming services and some apps block screen capture. Other windows capture normally.
Only part of the page is captured
Screen sharing shows only what is on screen. Scrolling pages need a full-page website screenshot.
The picker shows no tabs
Firefox and Safari share screens and windows only. Choose the browser window instead.
Text looks blurry
The image was made smaller. Choose Original size and PNG for sharp text.
Copy image does not work
Some browsers block copying images. Download the file instead, or use a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
Nothing happens on a phone
Phones cannot share the screen with websites. Take a screenshot with the phone and open it here.
Questions about the screenshot tool
Is this screenshot tool free, and are my screenshots uploaded?
It is free, with no account and no watermark. Your browser captures, edits and saves the image on your computer; nothing is sent to our server or anyone else. Screenshots are kept in this page's memory until you close it, so download the ones you want.
Can I take several screenshots without choosing the screen each time?
Yes. After you pick a screen, window or tab once, it stays shared, and each press of Take screenshot captures it again. Your browser shows that it is sharing until you press Stop sharing here or in the browser bar.
How do I capture a menu or something that disappears when I click?
Set a delay of 3, 5 or 10 seconds, press Take screenshot, then open the menu in the shared window before the countdown ends. The browser keeps capturing in the background.
Can it capture a whole scrolling web page?
No. Screen sharing only shows what is visible, so a browser tab is captured as you see it on screen. For a full-length page of a public website, use our website screenshot generator.
Why is my screenshot larger than my screen resolution?
On high-density screens, such as a Retina Mac or a laptop at 150% scaling, the screen has more real pixels than its size in the display settings, and the screenshot keeps all of them. Use Small, Medium or Large, or a custom size, to make it smaller.
Should I save as PNG, JPG or WebP?
PNG keeps text and lines perfectly sharp and is best for screenshots of apps and documents. JPG makes much smaller files and suits screenshots of photos or video. WebP is smaller than both and works on websites, but some older programs cannot open it.
Does it work on a phone?
Phone browsers do not let websites capture the screen. Take the screenshot with your phone's buttons, then open it here with the upload button to crop, mark up, resize and convert it.
