Academic Study Time Tracker
Master your academic routine with precision. Track study sessions in real time, measure focus quality, and build better habits through powerful, data-driven insights.
About This Tool
The Academic Study Time Tracker is more than just a stopwatch. Inspired by the principles of Deep Work and deliberate practice, it encourages mindful studying by asking you to log your subject and rate your focus level every session.
Quantified Self
You can’t improve what you don’t measure. Tracking exactly how much time you spend on subjects like Math vs. History helps you rebalance your workload and study where it matters most.
Quality over Quantity
Four hours of distracted study is worse than one hour of deep focus. The built-in Focus Level metric helps you discover when you’re most productive and build higher-quality study sessions.

Limitations
Note: This tool runs in your browser.
- Data is session-based. If you refresh the page, your logged sessions will reset (unless you download the report).
- The "Focus Level" is subjective self-reporting. Be honest with yourself for the best data!
- The timer stops if you close the browser tab entirely (though it usually continues if you just switch tabs).

Study Scenarios
Scenario 1: The Pomodoro
Method: Study 25 mins, Break 5 mins.
Use the Live Timer. Hit "Start", work until the clock says 25:00, then hit "Stop". Log it with high focus (8-10). Repeat.
Scenario 2: The Marathon
Method: 3-hour library session.
Use "Manual Entry" after you finish. Subject: "History". Duration: 180 mins. Focus: likely lower (5-6) due to fatigue.
FAQ
Yes, modern browsers usually keep the timer running accurately even if you switch to a different tab to research or read. However, if you close the browser window entirely, the timer will stop.
Your data exists in the browser temporarily. To save it permanently, use the "Download Report" button before closing the page. This generates a text file you can keep.
A focus level of 7+ indicates productive, distraction-free work. If you consistently rate yourself 4 or below, try shortening your study sessions or removing phone distractions.
Set the timer for 25 minutes. Work intensely until you stop the timer. Log the session. Take a 5-minute break (do not log the break). Repeat this cycle 4 times, then take a longer 15-30 minute break.
Generally, no. This tool is designed to track active study time ("Time on Task"). Tracking breaks can inflate your numbers and give a false sense of productivity.
It is best to track them separately for accurate analytics. If you switch from Math to History, stop the current timer, log it, change the subject name, and start a new timer.
Setting a specific hour goal creates a psychological target. Seeing the progress bar fill up releases dopamine and motivates you to finish your planned study hours for the day.
