A Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Image Splitter

Follow this detailed guide to master every feature of our tool, from basic splitting to advanced options.

1

Upload Your Image

The first step is to get your image into the tool. You have two easy options:

  • Drag & Drop: Simply drag your image file from your computer and drop it onto the large upload area.
  • Click to Browse: Click anywhere inside the upload area to open your computer's file browser and select an image.

Once uploaded, the main splitter interface will appear with your image preview on the left and control panels on the right.

2

Crop Your Image (Optional)

If you don't want to split the entire image, you can easily select just a portion of it. This is perfect for focusing on the most important part of your photo.

  • Click and drag your mouse over the preview image to draw a selection box.
  • The area outside your selection will be dimmed, and the splitting grid will only apply to the bright, selected area.
  • Made a mistake? Just draw a new selection or click the "Clear Selection" button in the "SELECTION" panel to go back to using the full image.
3

Configure Your Grid

The "OPTIONS" panel gives you full control over how your image (or selected area) is divided. A live preview of the grid will be drawn over your image as you adjust the settings.

Choose Split Mode
First, decide your overall goal: split into just rows (Vertically), just columns (Horizontally), or both (Both (grid)).
Define Block Size
For each direction, you can split by Quantity (e.g., create exactly 3 equal rows) or by Height/Width (e.g., create blocks that are 200px tall).
Add Overlap
Check the "Overlap" box and enter a pixel value. This is crucial for seamless physical prints, as it creates a shared border for you to align and glue the pieces perfectly.
4

Finalize and Download

When you're happy with the grid preview, it's time to generate and save your files.

Set Output Options
In the "OUTPUT" panel, you can set a custom filename pattern and choose your format (PNG, JPG, WEBP). For JPG and WEBP, a quality slider will appear, allowing you to balance file size and image quality.
Split the Image
Click the large blue "Split Image" button. The tool will process the image and display all the resulting tiles in a "Results" section below.
Download Your Files
You can now either download tiles one by one by hovering over them, or click the "Download All" button to save all the pieces sequentially. Your browser may ask for permission to download multiple files – we recommend you allow it.
5

Using Your History

Every time you split an image, the operation is saved to your browser's local storage for future use. This is perfect for repeating a task with the same settings.

Review Past Splits
Scroll down to the "Your Recent Splits" section to see a gallery of your past operations, including a thumbnail of the image and a summary of the settings.
Reuse Settings
Click the "Use these Settings" button on any history item. The tool will automatically load the original image, re-apply the exact same crop selection, and configure all the splitting options for you. The page will scroll up, and you'll be ready to split again or make minor adjustments.
Clear Your History
If you want to remove your saved operations, simply click the "Clear History" button at the top of the history section. You will be asked to confirm before the deletion happens.
