FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How are the default labour rates determined?
Our calculator uses a database of average market rates based on the location type (Rural, Urban, Metro) and the labour category you select. These are intended as a reliable starting point. For maximum accuracy, we always recommend overwriting the default value with quotes from your local contractors.
What's the difference between "Per Day" and "Per sq.ft." rates?
Per Day: This is a daily wage paid to a laborer for their work, regardless of the area covered. It's common for tasks like excavation or general help.

Per sq.ft.: This is a contract-based rate where the laborer is paid based on the area they complete. It is very common for finishing works like Plastering, Painting, Tiling, and Flooring.
Can I add a worker type that is not in the list?
Currently, the calculator supports the most common labour categories with pre-filled rate suggestions. For a unique trade, you can select a similar category (like "Helper" or "Mason") and manually enter the correct name and rate in your final downloaded report. We are continuously working on expanding the list.
Why should I include material costs?
Including material costs provides a complete picture of your project's total expenses, not just the manpower. This is crucial for overall project budgeting, financial planning, and comparing quotes from contractors who might provide a combined rate for both labor and materials. It turns the tool from a simple labor estimator into a comprehensive project cost calculator.
